Home Away From Home: The Maasai Mara

When one thinks of a safari, one thinks of Africa, specifically east Africa and immediately, Masai mara comes to mind. The images of wildlife especially the Big 5 is all one can picture.

A Masai Mara safari is a significant investment in the “Trip of a Lifetime” which becomes a wonderful obsession to return again and again. It’s always a breath taking safari.

The most interesting time to visit Maasai Mara is around the time of the annual wildebeest migration. It is fascinating to see over two million wildbeests walking in a line as they  make their way from Serengeti National park in Tanzania to the maasai Mara National reserve.

The wildebeests have to cross the Mara River in the Maasai Mara where crocodiles will prey on them. This is one of the highlights as the animals try and cross the Mara River alive.

We decided on a 3 days/2 night’s safari to Masai Mara with some of my family and friends. I would be confident in saying that we had one of the best and unforgettable safari.

The excitement of seeing the animals out in the wild was incredible. Not just the usual zebras and gazelles but the ‘Big Five’.  The nights were spent in tented camps and was so amazing to sleep in the wild and woken up in the middle of the night by the many sounds of different animals. At some point it was exciting and scary.

The tented Camps…

The part I enjoy most about camping is the bonfire and this time round the maasai guides made sure we had an incredible night.
